In couple of places, Pine Trees have encroached the trail high above to give a feeling as if you are passing thru a beautiful tunnel. This hike heads off trail eventually to get to Picea. Seneca Creek State Park is a public recreation area encompassing more than 6,300 acres (2,500 ha) along 14 miles of Seneca Creek in its run to the Potomac River in Montgomery County, Maryland.The park features facilities for boating and fishing as well as trails for hiking, cycling, and horseback riding. Descend to the eponymous creek, then climb up to 4,863-foot Spruce Knob, the state's wind-whipped high point. Seneca Creek Trail offers plenty of scenery including flowing waterfalls, streams, and swimming holes. Difficulty: Intermediate. Near the trail's end, the last, and most rewarding, creek crossing brings you to the 30-foot Upper Seneca Creek Falls. There are several trail options, all of which head toward the Potomac River. This trail connects the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath to Seneca Ridge Trail at the intersection with Black Rock Road at Black Rock Mill and runs on the other side of the creek as the Seneca Greenway Trail. Unlike other rail-trails in the national forest, this out-and-back route shows characteristics typical of former railroad corridors: it is flat and provides a relatively steady, easy hike and is doable with a mountain bike. The other two are Schaffer's farm trail and Black Hills Regional Park's trail (s) not sure how many trails are there. This scenic trail is muddy, rocky, rooty, hilly and steep in sections with no major elevation gain/loss. Follow on FR 112 for about 11.4 miles and the trailhead will be on the right. After reaching the top of that trail, we used the Lumberjack Trail to meet up with the Huckleberry Trail. This private land is posted, so please do not trespass.
